Markos Moulitsas, David Gregory, and Byron York
Sat Jul 19, 2008 at 03:32:02 AM PDT
Some of you might have seen the interview of Markos Moulitsas with David Gregory on MSNBC's Race for the White House. The interview was approximately eight minutes in length, generally focusing on Barack Obama and the level of support for him among the "liberal left".
From that interview, Byron York of the nationalreviewonline took partial statements made by Markos, and put them beside each other in an attempt to suggest that somehow the statements are contradictory, while questioning the independence of the netroots. York offers this:
Those Really, Really Independent-Minded Netroots
Two statements from Markos Moulitsas, made minutes apart on MSNBC:
I'm not going to carry water for Barack Obama...I'm not going to be like the Republicans who excused George Bush time and time again.
He's not tacking to the center...We're squarely behind him...At the end of the day, he's our nominee, and we're behind him 100 percent.
It should be pointed out once again that these are partial and incomplete quotes. But the larger point here is that it's quite telling that Byron York can look at these two statements and believe there is a contradiction.
Hey Markos! Can you contact all of us at once? With POLL!
Tue Jul 08, 2008 at 04:59:52 PM PDT
There are almost 170,000 members of DKos now. Aside from a small number of idiot trolls sent by the McBush campaign, they are mostly strong Democrats. What I want to know is this: given this site's incredible technical prowess, is it possible to mass email ALL of us at once? If so, I have a proposition. If we could get the members of DKos to give an AVERAGE of $20 a month to the Obama campaign for 4 months, that amounts to a contribution of $13,200,000 to help our man become #44. Here are my thoughts.
Let's Stop Doing McCain's Dirty Work
Thu Jul 03, 2008 at 06:18:25 PM PDT
We've seen it before: Obama's doing great; he's polling well; he's making all the right moves. Then the media, looking to make a horse race where there isn't one, seizes on some theme or other and tries to knock Obama down. There was the dirty Chicago pol theme, the scary black man with the aggreived wife and the crazy preacher theme and then the elitist theme. Now we are on to the "running to the center theme."
So why are we helping them with this? And yes, I mean you Markos and you Glenn Greenwald.Glenn Greenwald
my teeth have the same color as McCain's
Thu Jun 05, 2008 at 04:17:33 PM PDT
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
I'm incredibly proud of my Ph.D. from Boston University in part because it's something I share with MLK, and in part because my grandmothers were illiterate. In the past, I noted in comments that Markos, MLK and I have advanced degrees from the same school, but, you know, his was only a master's or something like that. (I respond to condescension in kind.)
I strongly favored John Edwards because I judged the candidates by their words. Nevertheless, I had been rejoicing those words from MLK for the past several months, and especially yesterday, because Obama became the nominee based on his words and character. Today, I recall them in a negative light.
Markos, thank you for reminding me that my teeth are "gross" as a consequence of having uneducated refugee immigrant parents who let me drink coffee every morning throughout elementary school but didn't encourage me to brush my teeth, because they just didn't know any better. I'll rush right out and get my teeth whitened for you.
Karl Rove: Scott McClellan "sounds like a left-wing blogger."
Wed May 28, 2008 at 01:10:12 PM PDT
By now, we all know that former Press Secretary Scott McClellan is publishing a book and apparently telling some truth about George Bush and his minions. Karl Rove doesn't like it:
"First of all, this doesn’t sound like Scott. It really doesn’t," he said. "Not the Scott McClellan I’ve known for a long time. Second of all, it sounds like somebody else. It sounds like a left-wing blogger."

Confessions Of A dKos Junkie
Sat May 17, 2008 at 01:08:36 PM PDT
"My name is EYZ and I'm a dKos junkie."
This is the point where I imagine the entire virtual dKos community looking at me with understanding smiles and saying: "Hello EYZ".
And so now to my sordid tale...
It started innocently enough. Of course I'd heard about dKos in my travels through cyberspace - how it was such a big thing and how it seemed to have some kind of strange and potent hold on left leaning types. Supposedly, a fair number of mainstream folks and certain well-known media pundits were rumored to be under the influence of dKos too. So sure, I got curious and surfed over to take a look.
It’s YOU, not America.
Thu May 15, 2008 at 08:38:43 PM PDT
It’s not America that left-wing liberals hate. It’s you bloodthirsty loudmouth right-wing extremists. And guess what, your time is almost up. The country is beginning to visibly lean in our direction. Soon we will vote all of you out, so to Hannity, Beck, O’Reilly and Limbaugh brace yourselves because your whining rants will soon be echoed into an abyss of "nobody gives a f***"
Destination - Denver?
Fri May 09, 2008 at 07:53:22 AM PDT
I had the great privilege of appearing on the same ballot as Senator Obama in Pennsylvania primary this past April 22nd, 2008.

(James Lyons - AKA the PoconoPCDoctor)
Alas and alack, due to Governor Rendell's churning out the vote for Senator Clinton, as well as Senator Clinton's "growing up in Scranton" stories, the voters determined my fate in whether or not I got to wear a funny hat at the DNC convention in Denver this August. I got 28,999 votes, but the 11th Congressional District in Pennsylvania is a an odd numbered district, and so is "gender favored."
This basically means that the spot for Alternate Delegate, the position I was running for, will go to the Clinton delegate. My sister, who was an organizer for ACORN in her younger days, thought I would definitely be going to Denver, since I was the only Alternate Delegate for Senator Obama. It was not to be.
OMG: TWEETY JUST QUOTED KOS AS A PUNDIT!!!
Tue May 06, 2008 at 11:40:10 PM PDT
I still can't believe it--so I'll say it again: Chris Matthews quoted Markos as a Pundit, even if he only acknowledged Markos by calling him "The Daily Kos!"

Was this kept on the down low around here?
Hillary agrees with Markos
Thu Mar 27, 2008 at 08:08:01 PM PDT
They say great minds thinks alike. And it does seem to be true. Clinton & Markos seem to agree 100% on this one issue. Well, Clinton thanks Markos for his support & hopes he will continue to support her.
Markos -- please grow up!
Wed Mar 19, 2008 at 05:09:49 PM PDT
Daily Kos has become a joke, even on the national news, as a result of immature Obama supporters using hide ratings / troll rating in order to "dissapear" comments by Clinton supporters, thread jacking, and other behavior more commonly associated with a 6 year old child than with adults.
I'm well aware that Markos also dislikes Clinton, and prefers Obama, but one would expect more from the site's founder than allowing this type of behavior. I was extremely disappointing to see his flip comments about HRC supporters "striking" and leaving the blog instead of continuing to put up with this abuse.
KOS and JEROME should Moderate a New Debate

(tiny diary)
Our candidates, no matter how we might feel about them, are both far too intelligent to be wasting their time and ours by participating in conversations under village idiot control.
There are many questions both candidates still need to be confronted with on stage, by actual thinking humans, concerning Iraq, healthcare, civil rights, torture, lobbyists, and the economy. And these questions need to be framed within the context of reality, unlike everything we've seen thus far in this campaign.
What about an APOLOGY Markos?
Wed Mar 05, 2008 at 10:05:21 PM PDT
Yes this site is going bat-shit insane with unfounded allegations of racism. An unsubstantiated diary was recommended to the top and was picked up by his highness Markos himself and pushed to the front page accusing Senator Clinton of racism. Guess what it was all a BIG LIE!!
Why I am Proud of This Community - A note to Markos
Wed Mar 05, 2008 at 11:37:18 AM PDT
Oh, perhaps one could take it that I am being sarcastic in response to the diarist who wrote the same title in embarassment to the voices and actions that we are all seeing in our current news cycle here in the Land of Kos, but I am not.
I think too many here are being a bit thin-skinned about the volume and tone of discussion, and not seeing the value of what we have here. Blood is running hot, with tempers to match because we have a large community that has a series of common goals, and two very strong, very passionate candidates out to represent those goals, with truly different means to the same end.
Yes We Will-Yes We Can

Daily reminder...as democrats, our enemy is the Bushbot/McBush republicans..it is not like minded democrats.
+1 for Markos, but slight disagreement
Tue Mar 04, 2008 at 08:31:25 AM PDT
In another diary it was discussed whether, "once a Republican, always a Republican" is a fair statement. Two points to make.
- I do think most of us agree this is simply not true.
- There is nothing wrong with being a Republican. I wholeheartedly disagree with almost the entire Republican platform, but there ARE many intelligent, thoughtful people who are Republicans. People of sound mind and the best intentions can simply disagree on important issues.
Markos, a Plaid Jacket and Idaho Democrats

Style is an amazing thing
Omar Little had it to the nth degree
However, the Great Orange Satan seems to be missing the same
Just Look at this abomination
Its Kos in well, Cecil Andrus' finest sartorial excess from 1954
That fellow he is with is Larry Grant one of Idaho's CD-1 candidates vying to take down crazy-ass wing-nut Bill Sali
Why would he wear that that that that that THING?
