Hillary Finally Admits It: "I Made A Mistake"

Tue Mar 25, 2008 at 01:05:52 PM PDT

We've been waiting for this forever.  For Hillary Clinton to finally admit that her vote for the Iraq war was a mistake, and that being human is one of the reasons why she made that mistake.

And we're going to keep on waiting for that until the last star in our universe fades into nothingness.

From TPM:

I just made a mistake. I had a different memory. My staff and others have all come together trying to sort out -- so I made a mistake. That happens. It proves I'm human, which for some is a revelation

Of course, she's still lying.  She knew she was lying in the first place, because she can't possibly have forgotten about bringing her one daughter with her into what she perceived to be a deadly warzone.

I'm glad to see that it took Hillary plus her entire staff (and others) to make sense of this and finally figure out the awful truth: that Hillary is an OK parent after all, and she wasn't putting Chelsea into mortal danger by intentionally placing her in front of snipers.  I wonder which one of them figured out how to use the internets so they could see the videos.

But seriously though.  WHEN WILL SHE APOLOGIZE FOR IRAQ.

Everyone with a pair of working eyes and half a brain already knew she was "making a mistake" by claiming she went into a warzone with her child.  Duh.

But now that she's admitted she's human, maybe now would be a nice time for her to practice some humanity and admit she was wrong to vote on the AUMF the way she did. This way, she can then hit the Senate Floor with a clear conscience and work extra hard, finding some kind of solution, using words and actions, to force President Bush to bring our troops home, now, before 2009.

  •  She had a different memory? (8+ / 0-)

    Man. That's....well...even scarier than lying.

Ready on Day One. If, well, she can remember.

Seriously, if she "had a different memory," meaning she remembered a peaceful benign event as a treacherous warzone, then that's some serious PTSD, delusions, hysteria, or some sort of sensory disorder. This is who we want as president?

Incidentally, if she "had a different memory" why did she record the correct memory in her autobiography?

      •  So she needs her STAFF to research (4+ / 0-)

whether or not she sprinted across a Tuzla tarmac with her teenage daughter dodging sniper bullets ? ! ?

Uh, I think it's something that could have been cleared up one way or another by the person who was there herself and lied at least 4 times about it in a 3-month period.

Sprinting across a tarmac with your child while dodging sniper fire isn't something that you would just forget about.

        It either happened or didn't.

This is just plain typical Clinton dishonesty and relativism mixed together.

        •  Which brings up a bigger question... (0+ / 0-)

Where was she when she did have a corkscrew landing, and where she was under sniper fire?

Either it happened somewhere, and she got mixed up, or she is lying about the entire experience.

          •  It's a LIE (0+ / 0-)

It never happened.  And she lied about it at least 4 times that we know of, in the past 3 months.

Off the AP wires, here's the latest story ( excerpt ):

Clinton calls Bosnia account a mistake

            Associated Press

GREENSBURG, Pa. - Hillary Rodham Clinton said Tuesday she made a mistake in claiming that she came under hostile fire in Bosnia 12 years ago . . .

            < snip >

In a March 17 speech in Washington, Clinton said of the Bosnia trip: "I remember landing under sniper fire. There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base."  That account was still posted on her campaign Web site Tuesday. Clinton told CNN last week, "There was no greeting ceremony, and we basically were told to run to our cars. Now, that is what happened."

            <snip>

The Obama campaign fueled the Bosnia brouhaha Tuesday, sponsoring a conference call with Pennsylvania reporters that featured retired Maj. Gen. Walter Stewart of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. Stewart said he was assigned to the Army's European headquarters when Clinton visited Bosnia as first lady in 1996. He said her claim that she landed under enemy fire insulted U.S. soldiers charged with her security.

"Believe me, heads would have rolled all over" if the military put the first lady and her daughter in a position of "unacceptable risk."

            . . .

  •  "Mistake" is Washingtonese for "lie". (0+ / 0-)

She must think we're stupid if she thinks there's anyone in America who can't tell the difference between a mistake, and a lie that gets rechristened "mistake" when it gets found out.

God, I'm sick of people like this running our country.  I'm sick of damned liars and people who make effing "MISTAKES" all the time.

How about we elect someone who tells the truth and doesn't make "mistakes," for a change.  Failing that, let's at least have someone who doesn't get as confused as Hillary on matters as simple as whether they were being shot at or not.

I'm sure I'm not alone in my reservations about Hillary's competency for that 3am phonecall with her memory going like this.

  •  Did she also apologize to Sinbad? (0+ / 0-)

Because, I think it was on 3/17, when someone questioning her told her that Sinbad said he remembered no snipers/no threat, she said "he's a comedian"...well she's a joke!  It was a trip she took with her teenaged daughter, a comedian and a musician/singer and  was greeted on the tarmac by well-wishers including an 8 year old girl that read poem.  The good news is, if that qualifies as foriegn policy experience, then Al Franken can pad is resume for the MN senate race!  Although I  think maybe Al actually has flown into dangerous situations visiting our troops!

  •  Maybe she has... (0+ / 0-)

...a different memory of how she voted on Iraq.

  •  Hillary lies about lying (0+ / 0-)

In her book which she now claims is the reality she states:

Due to reports of snipers in the hills around the airstrip, we were forced to cut short an event on the tarmac with local children, though we did have time to meet them and their teachers and to learn how hard they had worked during the war to continue classes in any safe spot they could find."

My diary describes the tcchnique of a "Sarajevo landing" which was originally designed to counter snipers but was standard operating procedure for Bosnia. Adocarbog adds important information that the Tuzla area had been quiet for a year and that therefore the possibility of there being snipers range from extremely remote to non-existant.

Hillary therefore issued a false statement in her book unless she can prove that these "reports of snipers in the hills" (lovely detail that Hil!) existed.

  •  Sorting it out (0+ / 0-)

Staff and others came together to try to sort it out. What does it mean to sort it out?

We still don't have full count of how many times this story was told, but there are several documented re-tellings. Did no-one who knew the truth hear those stories? Did they speak up, and were ignored? Were they afraid to speak up and try to correct? Did they agree that it made their candidate look good and figured the "misstatement" would never be uncovered?  So what is to be sorted out?

Staff and others came together and everyone was asked - did you go on that trip? Do you know someone who did? What do you/they remember about it? Finally, Hillary realizes that for months she's been remembering, and re-telling, details that absolutely nobody else can recall or corroborate. At this point one might question one's own mental health. If not, those closest will hopefully gently point out that concern and suggest a long rest.

On the other hand, the "sorting out" could have been along the lines of "Oh, crap, got caught. Any way we can weasel out of this? Maybe it will go away. Wright, Wright, Wright, let's see if we can make it go away. Well, it won't go away - in fact it's getting bigger and badder. Misspeak didn't work. Sleep deprived didn't work. What to do, what to do?" (That's what I think the sorting out was about)

So Superwoman admits making a mistake and having a faulty memory (just what we need in a President) and hopes that now it is sorted out and will just go away.

The simple answer is that Hillary did not remember the incident and the speech was ghost written by her team. They plucked it from her book "Living History" published in 2003 (see above). The speechwriter did not see the difference between a plane being fired at in theory and an airport being targeted.

I suppose writing your own speeches takes time as we saw when Obama took his time to reply to the Wright allegations. But then Hillary's script writers are no Obamas and of course Hillary farms it out to them to produce a better job than she could.
